Speaker Rivas joins the Democratic Party and Majority Leader Emerita Assemblymember Eloise Reyes in supporting Garcia for AD-50

Rancho Cucamonga, CA – Today, Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas announced his endorsement of educator and Etiwanda School District Board Member Robert Garcia, who is the official endorsed Democratic candidate for Assembly District 50 heading to the November 2024 runoff.

Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas said, “Robert Garcia has devoted his life to education and helping his community thrive. On the Etiwanda School District Board, he’s been an effective leader who’s not afraid to advocate for students. Robert is the right choice to deliver for working families, and I know he will be a strong and thoughtful representative for the Inland Empire in the State Assembly.”

Elected to the Assembly in 2018, Speaker Rivas has led on legislation focusing on affordable housing, healthcare, the environment, and education. Raised in farmworker housing, he is the grandson of labor activists and has spent his career devoted to public service.

In thanking the Speaker for his endorsement, Garcia stated, “I am honored to have the Speaker’s support in my race for State Assembly. His work in Sacramento is key to ensuring California continues to lead the nation in building progress. I look forward to working with him to get things done and to protect the California dream.”

The only lifelong educator in the race for AD-50 who currently works in the district as a school administrator, Garcia has championed the right to access a strong, public education.

Robert Garcia is also backed by the California Teachers Association (CTA), California Federation of Teachers (CFT), California School Employees Association (CSEA), Planned Parenthood, the California Latino Legislative Caucus, the California Legislative Progressive Caucus, and scores of leaders across the district, including Assemblymember Eloise Reyes, Congressman Pete Aguilar, County Supervisor Joe Baca, Colton Mayor Frank Navarro, Fontana City Councilmember Jesse Sandoval, and more.

About Robert Garcia

Robert Garcia has spent the last two decades in public education as a teacher and administrator at a local elementary school. In 2016, Robert was elected to the Etiwanda School District Board of Education, winning re-election in 2020 with nearly 70% of the vote. He is the first in his family to graduate from high school and college, and he earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from UCLA and master’s in public policy from USC. Robert and his wife, Samantha, live with their three children in Rancho Cucamonga.

Assemblymember Eloise Reyes currently represents AD-50 and has endorsed Robert Garcia to succeed her. The district is based in San Bernardino County, including Rancho Cucamonga, Fontana, Colton, Redlands, Loma Linda, Ontario, and a portion of San Bernardino as well as unincorporated communities.
